How to Season, 2024
A series inspired by Montreal and its many seasonal perks and quirks. The "How to" in the title pays homage to John Wilson's comedy docu-series "How To with John Wilson". In the series, John documents whacky people, things and moments he encounters while walking around in NYC and then ties those visual snippets together under a single theme. In a similar way, the drawings in this foursome combine seasonal stereotypes and peculiar situations that mainly Montrealers would be privy to (e.g wearing ski masks while commuting on your bike in the spring), along with the assumptions of how we feel about the Canadian seasons.
Each season has a tone that tries to evoke the reality of the sometimes drastic changes in temperature and environment. Fall is the first drawing I created for the series. It is calm and cozy and creates the perfect backdrop for strolling aimlessly with hot coffee. Winter is a little drippy and maybe slightly sad - it is really an ode to those who like me, battle each year with SAD. Spring is full of little surprises - left-over snow banks and eager flowers. It is the in between season we will never know how to dress for. And finally we have Summer. Summer is pure chaos - all activities and energies and colours and heat - everything flying by in a hot and sweaty instant.
